Superior, Nebraska

As an honorary citizen of Superior, Nebraska, it is my civic duty to encourage you to visit beautiful Nuckolls County, literally the middle of America.

Superior is the proud “Victorian Capital” of the Cornhusker state, about 130 miles from Lincoln and 185 miles from Omaha.

For a great weekend getaway, you should try the Lady Vestey Memorial Day Festival in May. It’s a weekend celebration of the town’s most famous citizen, Evelyn Brodstone, born in 1875, and the highest paid female executive of her time. In case you were wondering where she got the “Lady Vestey” name: She married Lord William Vestey, a British meat shipping magnate.

I recommend you stay at the charmingly renovated Victorian Inn: Ask for my friend Doris Morris, the manager, and tell her I sent you.
